Junior formula car champion-winning squad begins sports racing campaign in Florida with Kraut

MINNEAPOLIS, MN. (March 11, 2011) – JDC MotorSports commences its latest racing adventure this coming week (March 17-18), when the Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship gets underway with Rounds One and Two at Sebring International Raceway. As part of an expanded race operation – which already includes a championship-winning Star Mazda Championship team and a race-winning USF2000 National Championship squad – the Minnesota-based outfit will make its sports racing debut with long-time team driver Gerry Kraut getting behind the wheel in central Florida.

With the ultimate goal of adding sports car success to all its already impressive racing resume – which features two Star Mazda Championship titles and an F2000 Championship Series crown – JDC MotorSports is set to embark on its inaugural season of Prototype Lites Championship competition, with the season-opening doubleheader taking part during the historic 12 Hours of Sebring event. With Kraut, a long-time JDC racer and partner – co-owning the Star Mazda portion of the squad – leading the team’s foray into the sports racing ranks, the stage is set for not only success during Rounds One and Two, but throughout the 14-race campaign. The former multiple Star Mazda Masters Series race winner enters the Florida doubleheader, having recently taken part in official winter testing at Sebring, gaining information and valuable seat time in the No. 55 Dougherty & Co./Dougherty Funding LLC/Red Line Oil/JDC MotorSports Elan DP02 entry.

“I am really going to enjoy this series,” stated Kraut. “Sebring is one of my favorite tracks- a historical gem that hasn't been sanitized like the ‘country club’ tracks that have sprouted up all over the country. And, just as important, I am sticking with IMSA, a fine organization that feels like home to me.”

JDC MotorSports and Kraut commence their pursuit of L1 class top honors in the Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship on Tuesday (March 15) at Sebring International Raceway with a pair of promoter’s test day sessions. An additional test session will be held on Wednesday morning (March 16), prior to the action official getting underway via an afternoon practice run. Thursday (March 17) will feature the lone qualifying session in the morning, followed by Round One at 4:15 p.m. local time. The season-opening doubleheader concludes on Friday (March 18) at 2:05 p.m. local time with Round Two.

About JDC MotorSports:

Involved in formula car racing since its inception in 1994, JDC MotorSports has established itself as one of the leading junior open-wheel teams in North America. Initially making its mark in the F2000 class of club racing competition, JDC MotorSports was soon a team worth watching in the pro ranks. Competing in the Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship, the team not only won races, but also helped develop multiple young drivers. In 2005, JDC MotorSports expanded its efforts, entering the Star Mazda Championship. Quickly becoming one of the top teams in the series, JDC captured both the driver and team titles in 2007, as well as Rookie of the Year honors, with Dane Cameron scoring a series-high three wins. In 2008, JDC MotorSports was the runner-up in the Star Mazda Championship and finished fourth in its inaugural season of F2000 Championship Series competition. The Minnesota-based team won the Star Mazda Championship title with Rookie of the Year Adam Christodoulou, and the F2000 Championship Series title with Chris Miller in 2009. This past year, JDC continued its winning ways, earning the Rookie of the Year award in the Star Mazda Championship with Connor De Phillippi, and scoring a non-points win in the USF2000 National Championship. The Minneapolis-based squad will compete in the Star Mazda Championship, USF2000 National Championship and Prototype Lites Championship in 2011 via multi-car operations.
