Team News: JDC Motorsports Resumes Title Chase in California
Kraut enters Rounds 11 and 12 with five podium finishes in rookie campaign
MINNEAPOLIS, MN. (September 14, 2011) – JDC MotorSports’ resumes its pursuit of top honors in the competitive Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship this coming weekend (September 17-18), with the penultimate event on the 2011 calendar at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Rookie standout Gerry Kraut will again be behind the wheel for the Minnesota-based squad in Rounds 11 and 12, having stood on the podium in four of the five events contested this season.
While both JDC MotorSports and Kraut enter the Prototype Lites Championship doubleheader having never previously raced a sportscar at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, both have enjoyed good success in the past at the undulating road course in northern California. The No. 55 Dougherty & Co./Dougherty Funding LLC/Red Line Oil/JDC MotorSports Elan DP02 racer in fact won last time he competed at Laguna Seca, taking home the Masters Series win in the Star Mazda Championship. One year before that, he came home P2 in the Masters Series of the junior formula car development championship, further showcasing an affinity to the technical track.
As has been the case throughout JDC Motorsports’ inaugural Prototype Lites campaign, the goal will now be to build on this previous race experience and knowledge. If the previous five events are any indication, that should not be an issue. Thanks in part to JDC giving Kraut all the tools to succeed event after event, the Minnesota-based racer has regularly challenged for top honors, scoring top-three results in five of the 10 races contested thus far. When combined with no finishes outside of the top-six, Kraut is within striking distance of the series title – nine points behind the championship leader – entering the final four races of the season.
JDC MotorSports’ Kraut will first sample the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca road course in a Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship car on Thursday (September 15), when two test sessions will be conducted. Day two in California will consist of a morning practice session and an afternoon qualifying run, setting the field for race one of the doubleheader. Round 11 is scheduled to get underway on Saturday (September 17) at 9 a.m. local time, while Round 12 will commence at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday (September 18). JDC MotorSports travels to the northern California race facility fourth in the team standings.

About JDC MotorSports:
Involved in formula car racing since its inception in 1994, JDC MotorSports has established itself as one of the leading junior open-wheel teams in North America. Initially making its mark in the F2000 class of club racing competition, JDC MotorSports was soon a team worth watching in the pro ranks. Competing in the Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship, the team not only won races, but also helped develop multiple young drivers. In 2005, JDC MotorSports expanded its efforts, entering the Star Mazda Championship. Quickly becoming one of the top teams in the series, JDC captured both the driver and team titles in 2007, as well as Rookie of the Year honors, with Dane Cameron scoring a series-high three wins. In 2008, JDC MotorSports was the runner-up in the Star Mazda Championship and finished fourth in its inaugural season of F2000 Championship Series competition. The Minnesota-based team won the Star Mazda Championship title with Rookie of the Year Adam Christodoulou, and the F2000 Championship Series title with Chris Miller in 2009. This past year, JDC continued its winning ways, earning the Rookie of the Year award in the Star Mazda Championship with Connor De Phillippi, and scoring a non-points win in the USF2000 National Championship. The Minneapolis-based squad will compete in the Star Mazda Championship, USF2000 National Championship and Prototype Lites Championship in 2011 via multi-car operations.
