Team News: Comprent Motor Sports Making Its Mark from Coast to Coast

Georgia-based team added pro-level podium and amateur-level win to resume during four event weekend

ATHENS, GA. (September 23, 2011) – Comprent Motor Sports showcased its skill and versatility as a leading race team and prep shop this past weekend (September 17-18), taking part in four different events across the nation. In the pro ranks, the Georgia-based squad made its mark by adding yet another podium finish to its 2011 Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship tally at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, as well as scoring two top-10 results in the SCCA Pro Racing Formula Enterprises doubleheader at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. On the amateur side of the equation, Comprent Motor Sports won a pair of Vintage Sports 2000 races at Road Atlanta, and was a front-runner in Spec Racer Ford testing for the SCCA National Championship Runoffs at Road America.

As is often the case on any given race weekend, Comprent Motor Sports was recently forced to divide its efforts among multiple drivers and events. For some teams this would result in a loss of performance or focus, particularly given the action was taking place in three different time zones across the USA. The multiple pro and amateur championship-winning squad however met the challenge head-on, enjoying success at all four venues.

Comprent Motor Sports continued its pursuit of another Prototype Lites Championship title with Rounds 11 and 12 at Laguna Seca in northern California. With double race winner and title contender Jonathan Gore back behind the wheel of the squad’s Elan DP02 entry, the Georgia-based outfit was once again one of the team’s to watch. Gore added another podium result to his and the team’s resume in race one of the doubleheader with a third place finish, and was poised to repeat the feat in race two, until a minor error relegated the Tennessee racer to seventh on the scoresheet. Gore remains in contention for the series crown entering the season-finale at Road Atlanta, lying third in the current standings.

On the other side of the country, Tilden Kinlaw was representing the well-regarded team in Rounds Seven and Eight of the Formula Enterprises Series. The North Carolina native, as expected, showed good speed and racecraft on the technical Mid-Ohio road course. Kinlaw in the end extended his run of top-10 finishes to seven, finishing seventh in both rounds of the doubleheader.

Jonathan Holtzman ensured Comprent Motor Sports exited the busy weekend with some more trophies to put on the mantle. The Michigan racer was the driver to beat in Vintage Sports 2000 action at Road Atlanta, scoring the victory on both Saturday and Sunday in Georgia.

In preparation for the world renowned SCCA National Championship Runoffs, the Comprent Motor Sports crew was also on hand at Road America. Making the most of open testing at the famed four-mile Wisconsin road course, Tray Ayres turned numerous laps in his Spec Racer Ford in order to fine tune the racing steed ahead of the ‘Olympics of Motorsports’.

Comprent Motor Sports continues its hectic fall racing schedule with a mixture of pro and amateur events over the next several weeks. First up is the SCCA National Championship Runoffs (September 23-25) at Road America in Wisconsin, where the squad is seeking another National Championship title. That is immediately followed by the Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship season-finale (September 29-30) at Road Atlanta, which will feature a three-car effort by the Georgia team during the Petit Le Mans event. The SCCA Pro Racing Formula Enterprises season also concludes at Road Atlanta (November 4-5), as part of the American Road race of Champions event.
